Starting tomorrow morning, in what marks a major change in publishing, the New York Times, NBC, NatGeo, and Buzzfeed, are all going to begin publishing directly to Facebook. This is going to be interesting.
Up until now, Facebook has come up just short of being a legitimate media channel. We scoffed when we heard from Pew Research that 30% of Americans get their news from Facebook. It must be all those darned kids! But now, lines get blurry. Facebook starts to have more in common with media servers like Netflix or Amazon Prime. With Twitter now in the streaming media business, the convergence that was promised in the 1990’s is now here.
This is big news. Mark Wednesday May 13th on your calendar.
